Work Experience and Volunteering
Virtual Work Experience
In response to the current COVID-19 crisis, Minerva Arts is throwing open our virtual doors to welcome aboard anyone who has missed out on a work experience placement in 2020 so far to come and take on a virtual placement with us. Our style of working is pretty unique when it comes to work experience and we are really keen on supporting young people to take an independent and freelance-style approach to their careers education.
As such, during the current lockdown and beyond, we would like to offer young people the chance to take on a small role with us. This could be for one or two weeks in an intensive way, or, more likely, we can provide you with a set of tasks and a timeline to complete them in. We will communicate using all our usual online channels and you will help us keep our business going during this tough time while learning valuable workplace skills.
If you have missed out on your placement this year, please feel free to get in touch with us using the contact form here. We will chat to your about the amount of hours you think you can manage, what kinds of tasks you are able to do and how we will manage the placement.

Volunteering
We regularly recruit community volunteers to come and support our work, whether within Youth Theatre groups or on particular pieces of project work. Volunteers with Minerva can engage with face to face work with young people, marketing, technical support, project development or fundraising and can choose to engage over a long term or over a set period of time. We also advertise our volunteering opportunities with Chester Voluntary Action, CVS Cheshire East and the University of Chester. |
Work Experience
We work with a range of partners to offer for experience placements to young people and students. We can offer: *Year 10 work experience. We work with Mploy Solutions as a regular provider of Year 10 work experience but are also open to other approaches from schools and parents. Placements are usually one or two weeks and involve supporting our work from a 'behind the scenes' position, learning about how we operate as a small arts and cultural charity. *Further Education placements. We offer work experience placements for students at Cheshire College South and West. Placements are flexible and can involve work on any aspect of Minerva programme activity. *University work-based learning placements. We have been a provider of work based learning at the University of Chester since 2014, taking on two students per year on five week placements. During this placement, students get involved in learning about facilitation skills, project management, fundraising and marketing. |
Work Experience with Minerva Arts- What's it all about?
Introduction
Myself (Chloe) and my colleague Finley, have been doing our work experience with the staff of Minerva Arts for the past 5 business days. We have experienced many different things during the 5 days and know more on how a business like Minerva Arts works, from email marketing to home education.
The Experience
Our time during the work experience has overall been great, as we learnt how the inside of an Arts business is run, and where young people go to improve their self confidence and begin to develop a liking towards drama activities.
New Friends
The time i've had in this work i have created friendly connections to the staff we have worked with, Mandy, Emilie, Steph and Jude. As well as this my co-worker Finley had been in my school for 4 years, yet this week has been the starting point of our friendship, as we did not really speak in our school.
What We Learnt
We learnt how Minerva Arts gather students from Home Education groups to perform drama related activities. We found out a lot about the kids we worked with at the youth drama clubs we attended on Thursday 4th March. Me and Finley got to watch the kids perform micro plays from simple texts they were given by teacher, this gave us a good idea on the devising process works. It was interesting to see how each individual group tackled the task in their own unique way and style of performing.
